About Il Sarale.
Welcome to Umbria, the green heart of Italy! We are delighted to welcome you to our agriturismo or one of our apartments. From the former farmhouse and tobacco barn, you will enjoy stunning views over the Umbrian hills and the village of Montone. Montone is a medieval fortress in northern Umbria, not far from Città di Castello and Pietralunga. It is a beautiful medieval town surrounded by high city walls and is one of "I Borghi più Belli d'Italia," the most beautiful towns in Italy. The area is very green and mountainous, making it an ideal vacation destination for those seeking peace and quiet, as well as for culinary enthusiasts. During the summer, Montone hosts the Umbria Film Festival, an annual event that attracts many people and film stars. Are you interested in culture and history? Just a 10-minute drive away, you will find Città di Castello, and within half an hour, you can visit Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, and Lake Trasimeno. Welcome to the border of Umbria, Tuscany, and Le Marche!

Accommodation.
Our entire complex consists of a farmhouse (Casale) that dates back to the 1500s, perched atop the hills of Montone. The old tobacco barn has been converted into three apartments, and there is also a detached holiday home. The property spans 7 hectares of land, featuring olive trees, cozy seating areas, a pine forest with hammocks, and views of Montone. In the former farmhouse, you will find five agriturismo rooms, one of which is suitable for four people. All rooms have private bathrooms, are spacious and tastefully decorated, and offer stunning views from every room. The ground floor is set up for breakfast and dinner.
Hospitality.
In addition to breakfast for our agriturismo guests, we also regularly prepare meals for our visitors. Umbria has a rich culinary tradition, and we are excited to introduce you to this cuisine. We serve a 3-course dinner in our restaurant or on the terrace, and you will be amazed by the flavors. Fresh local products, regional wines, and, of course, our own olive oil all contribute to a burst of flavors. The cuisine of Umbria is as diverse as its landscape, partly due to its central location and the influences of the surrounding regions. You will find a wide variety of dishes, including pasta, meat, and fish. The dishes, simple yet pure, are often linked to the agricultural and religious calendar, and despite their simple ingredients, they are unique in flavor. Would you like to enjoy a good glass of wine, a spumante, Italian beer, or fresh fruit juice on the terrace? All of this is possible.
Region
Our agriturismo and apartments are located near Città di Castello, where four Italian regions converge: Tuscany, Umbria, Le Marche, and Emilia-Romagna. Here, the Tiber River flows through the valley, bringing centuries of activity to the area. In the Tiber Valley, gently rolling hills and valleys follow one another in an endless rhythm, occasionally interrupted by medieval villages where daily life seems to have stopped in time. As you tour the hills, you'll also see many castles, abbeys, and small churches. Be sure to visit them, as they often feature beautiful frescoes, serene cloistered passages, and statues of the Virgin Mary, which are frequently adorned with flowers and candles by the local villagers.
Citta di Castello is a beautifully preserved medieval town, featuring palaces, a cathedral full of frescoes, a remarkable crypt, and several lovely museums. It is a lively place with charming shops, many terraces, and excellent restaurants, all just 10 minutes from Il Sarale!
Lago di Trasimeno With its beautiful villages and small beaches, Cortona, Arezzo, Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi… all just a half-hour drive away. Plenty of culture... but also nature! Only 15 minutes away is a stunning nature reserve with hiking trails, ancient monasteries and churches, small waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. You can also find roe deer, wild boar, foxes, and badgers around here, and wake up to the sounds of the hoopoe, woodpecker, and bee-eater.
